Stand Strong 

Fit For Life have been delivering researched based Stand Strong classes since 2001. Group exercise has been researched and is highly recommended as an ideal form of physical activity, especially for the older adult. Fit For Life’s knowledge has led to the development of a successful exercise intervention for older adults. We know how to deliver fun, safe and effective group exercise classes for older adults and these should consist of strength, flexibility, balance and cardiovascular components.  Fit For Life's Stand Strong classes are open to older adults of all abilities and ages. 

We are passionate about our role in providing exercise to the older adult. Following our National Frameworks vision, ‘where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential’, we are part of making Ireland a good country to live in and age in.  

 

The benefits of physical activity include staying independent for as long as possible. We all know the importance of independence and we work with people as this becomes more challenging. We ensure that individuals achieve their own potential, providing support with personal goals and best practice interventions to gain these goals.

 

 

 

 

A Fit For Life 'Stand Strong' Class will be:

  • Researched, designed and developed from our experience of working with older adults

  • Progressive, ensuring that participants will benefit continuously

  • Individual assessments* are made prior, during and post to measure progress(Stand Strong Plus*)

  • Able to cater for specific populations and pathologies but also for participants of different levels of ability

  • We ensure sessions are fun, social and easily tailored to all needs

  • Can only be delivered by a member of the FFL team or by a certified Fit For Life trainer

Due to the vast experience that we have built up over the years our highly trained team can accommodate all levels into a group scenario safely and seamlessly. By attending our classes we can help you to build up your overall physical fitness to allow you to do the things that you really want to do! Stand Strong 'Live' Online


In our ‘Stand Strong’ classes we have combined a number of different physical activities to improve your strength, balance (including Tai Chi), posture, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness which are essential components in keeping fit, strong, healthy and independent. Our conversion to online 'Live' Stand Strong classes has been a big success and allows people to access the expertise of our team from the comfort of their own home. Due to the vast experience that we have built up over the years our highly trained team can accommodate all levels into a group scenario safely and seamlessly. How Does Stand Strong 'Live' Online work? Once you have expressed an interest in joining a class one of our team will contact you to discuss joining a group and if you would like to avail of our Stand Strong Plus* service which includes a detailed 'in person' individual assessment. Once that has been established we will then assist you in the set up of the service. This will include:

  • Identifying the IT available to you to join the class
  • Trial set up and run through of how a class works
  • Identify the appropriate class for you to join
  • Organise any equipment that you may need to participate
By attending our classes we can help you to build up your overall physical fitness to allow you to do the things that you really want to do! Stand Strong Plus


What is Stand Strong Plus? Stand Strong Plus is a service where we carry out a specific battery of individual physical ability assessments that Fit For Life have developed prior to joining one of our Stand Strong classes to ensure that you get the most out of your classes. When you sign up for Stand Strong Plus you will receive;

  • A full physical ability assessment - Strength, Endurance, Balance, Flexibility
  • A health screening to ascertain exactly what type of physical activities would be appropriate and safe for you.
  • Access to 'in person' and/or 'Live' online Stand Strong classes with people of similar abilities
  • Individual Physical Activity plans specific to you
  • Regular education imformation on health topic related to older adults
  • Regular Individual reassessments to monitor your progress and change your programme appropriately

Stand Strong for groups or organisations (in person)


This service is for groups such as Active Retirement groups, Older Adult daycare services, religous orders or any other groups of older adults who have a location that can accomodate a group physical activity class. Stand Strong classes are fun and enjoyable but importantly are challenging and adaptable to each and every individual regardless of their level of health and fitness.​ In our ‘Stand Strong’ classes we have combined a number of different physical activities to improve your strength, balance (including Tai Chi), posture, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness which are essential components in keeping fit, strong, healthy and independent. How does it work?

  • A member fo our team will contact you to ascertain the approximate number of participants and the suitability of the venue to conduct classes.
  • We will establish whether your group wish to avail of our standard Stand Strong class or Stand Strong Plus* service
  • We will send you an exact outline of the service including costs
  • Decide on a suitable day and time!
