Job description

Due to a rapid increase in demand for our services nationwide in residential care and in the community, we are continuing to recruit for Chartered Physiotherapists (Full/Part time) in Galway. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and help us to expand and develop our services in the sector.

Many Nursing Homes in conjunction with Fit For Life are now providing allied healthcare services to short-term residents availing of respite, post-operative rehabilitation and reablement programmes. We are, therefore, expanding our links with hospitals and community providers by establishing ourselves as market leaders in multi-disciplinary older adult health care. 

The successful candidate will be working with an experienced team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and Exercise and Rehabilitation therapists that are all committed to improving our older adult’s quality of life.

Applicants must have a genuine interest in the ageing adult population and should have previous work experience working with older adults and a keen interest in exercise therapy. 

Position involves:

  • Working with older adults in long term & short term residential care facilities, community hospitals, day-care centres and in the community.

  •  Variety of services working with older adults in Nursing Homes including delivering services to:

    • Long term residents.

    • Short term residents on respite packages.

    • Short term residents who require post orthopaedic surgery rehabilitation.

    • Short term residents availing of reablement services to return home in conjunction with our OT Department.

  • Community Physiotherapy (Home Visits) & MDT services.

  • Remote Telehealth Physiotherapy.

  • Day to day responsibilities include carrying out individual assessments, joint multidisciplinary assessments, functional and falls risk assessments using best practice outcome measures. Designing specific & functional Home Exercise programmes & Specialised Group Exercise therapy to older adults of all levels of physical and cognitive capabilities.

  • Working closely with other members of the Fit For Life team to introduce new ideas and approaches to offer a more holistic service. Researching and delivering in-services on older adult related topics.

  • Extensive in-house training provided in the areas such as Falls Prevention, latest best practice exercise prescription for all older adults (including those living with dementia) and advanced people handling.

  • Monthly in services and CPD and research opportunities available in all areas related to older adult care.

  • Areas for further career development include:

    • Delivering Fit For Life specialised training to other Health Care professionals.

    • Assisting in further development of Fit For Life AHP Healthcare Software.

 

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Genuinely interested in and committed to working with the older adult population.

  • Competent and knowledgeable in using best practice older adult specific outcomes measures and generating persons-centred short and long term goals.

  • Enthusiastic in instructing, prescribing, recording and analysing best practice exercise interventions with participants of varying capacity and pathologies.

  • Comfortable working with nursing home and hospital staff and liaising with older adults and their respective families and/or carers.  

  • Able to provide evidence of continued professional development around older adult care.

  • Flexible and willing to be involved in all aspects of the companies on site interventions.

  • CORU registered AND member of ISCP.

  • Legally entitled to work in Ireland.

  • A good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Experienced working with older adults or have proven research in the field.

 

Additional Information:

  • Initial 9-month probationary contract with a full review based on performance.

  • Travel expenses are paid when using your private vehicle as per company policy.
